    This is a 2 day workshop.

    4.2.3D is a workshop about the process of creating — in this case, about creating jewelry. First there is the idea — the mental vision of the object (which is 4th dimensional). Then there is a necessary step where the vision is transferred to paper as a drawing (two dimensionally). And finally the object is constructed in metal to create a three dimensional form… think / draw / make. You will have Tom's creative & technical experience to guide you as you make the journey from idea to object.

    Note: This workshop is geared for the intermediate metalsmithing student. Each student will receive a form to return to Tom which will enable him to adapt his instruction according to student’s skill level. Skills practiced and explored will run the gamut!
Materials fee of $35 payable to Instructor at class time includes:
  • 4” x 4” 22g Brass Sheet
  • 1’ 10g Brass Round Wire
  • 1’ 16g Brass Round Wire Extra Easy, Easy, Medium, Hard
  • Inspiration & Technique Booklet
    ** Silver sheet & wire optional for additional cost. Please email by June 30th if interested so that the order will arrive in time for the workshop.

    Many tools and equipment necessary for the course will be available for use in the class and also to purchase, but please feel free to bring your personal jewelry-making hand tools and safety equipment if you have them.

    Below are examples of tools and equipment that will be used in the class:
  • 1/2” diameter ball-peen rivet hammer
  • 6-12 cross-lock tweezers
  • 1-2 third hand tweezer stands
  • 2 pyrex bowls  4-6” in diameter 3-4 inches in depth
  • 1 revolving solder pad stand
  • 1 solder pad
  • steel bench block
  • chasing hammer
  • nylon forming hammer (deadblow) and/or rawhide mallet (1” to 2” diameter)
  • flush cutter
  • jeweler’s saw
  • files
  • scissors
  • rulers
  • safety glasses

    This workshops requires close vision capability. Many of the skills you will be exposed to require visual acuity in the 12” to 3” range. If you have close vision issues please experiment with solutions that will give you the ability to see clearly at the indicated range before you arrive for the workshop. This means an Optivisor, a headband device with various lens powers, Reading Glasses (I use 3x over and just below my regular glasses).
