Join me to create a one-of-a-kind painted and embellished whimsical bird. You’ll learn to use acrylic paints to shade and highlight and make each bird glow with color, bringing your fine feathered friend to life before your eyes. By attaching upcycled and purchased materials, you will add to your bird’s whimsy of sparkle and delight in a most unusual design. I consider the embellishment process similar to hard collage. There’s an ebb and flow to the way the pieces are individually attached to each wooden form. This process will give your piece shine and interest. Also learn to secure your piece to a solid form. We’ll collage and antique the base, attach a “nest” for standing and add interesting natural pieces to your design.

Materials fee of $5 payable to Instructor at class time includes:

• Bird
• Wood base
• Collage papers
• Paints of varied colors
• Antiquing medium
• Brushes for detail designs
• Up-cycled parts and pieces
• Nesting materials
• Copper scrubbing pad
• Golden soft gel medium, matte

Students should bring:

• Wire cutting tools
• Loctite Super Glue Control Gel (Ace Hardware, WalMart, Lowe’s, Home Depot)
• Ultimate Glue
• Paint brush: a few sizes you have and use for your art (6” flat, round liner, etc.)

Optional:

• Old jewelry parts and pieces, broken earrings, gears, broken jewelry, fun stuff
• If you would prefer to mount your bird onto a vintage piece as an old camera, croquet ball cut in half, etc.
