What if you like the look of encaustic or wax paintings but you don’t want all the fumes, special equipment and heat? Then this is the class for you. We will work on special substrates to create the depth and waxy look of encaustic. You will learn about different acrylic gels and mediums and how to create depth and change the sheen of your art by using acrylic. You will also learn about transparency and opacity in paints and how to create glazes and broken color. We will embed materials, transfer images, texture and emboss and then we will mount our work onto a panel. It looks like wax but you won’t need a torch or special handling. You will learn several resist techniques, how to mix up your own faux encaustic recipes and even go home with a finished work of art. How cool is that.

Students should bring:
- Fluid acrylic paints, an assortment of colors
- Stepped handle plastic palette knife
- Spray bottle of water
- Small spray bottle with rubbing alcohol
- Synthetic soft brushes-flat and round
- Container for water
- Paper towel
- Brayer or Bone Folder
- Scissors
- Wax paper for wrapping finished art work in
- Palette paper
- Pencil
