Painting portraits can be a challenge, especially when it comes to mixing colors for shading and highlighting the facial features. In this fun workshop we will work with one color, mixing shades and tints of that color to create fabulous self-portraits that depict a fanciful you, full of fun and color! Any color will work as we learn about shade, hue and tint, how to mix them and practice painting techniques that will work for most any type of mixed media work. Using a quick watercolor paper journal we'll make in class, we will begin with a lesson on drawing/sketching a face and then build off that sketch to create unique portraits using acrylics and some water-soluble media. Unsure of your portrait skills? That’s OK, I’ll provide full support and be bringing my new Face Map Stencils for you to use if you want to. Don’t let a fear of faces keep you from discovering the Real hUe!

Kit Fee of $15 payable to Instructor at class time includes

• Faber Castell Mixed Media Kit
• Set of 6 Faber Castell Graphite Sketch Pencils
• black water soluble pencil
• blending stump
• kneaded eraser

Instructor will provide for use in class:

• Matisse paints and mediums
• assorted stamps
• stencils
• inks
• pens
• charcoal

Students should bring:

• 1 22 x 30 sheet of 90lb hot press watercolor paper (can be folded into 1/4ths for traveling)
• paint brushes
• water container
• paint palette
• Palette knife (plastic is fine)
