Student Level:
Beginner - Intermediate
Type of Workshop: Project

This is a 9 hour workshop.

Viking Knit is one of the oldest forms of knitting, and is a looping technique that preceded traditional knitting by centuries. Examples of these knitted chains have been found at various archeological sites in Scandinavia dating back to the Viking era of the 8th century A.D.

In this one and a half day class, you will try your hand at this ancient art form by first designing a chosen length of Viking knit chain to be used as a choker, necklace, or perhaps a bracelet. And, you’ll have an opportunity to explore the affects of annealing and work hardening metal and wire by using a torch and a tumbler, as you design one or more beautiful ruffled pendants. I’ll demo how to make end caps, a hook closure, and even a nest. And, I’ll share how you too can incorporate vintage jewelry into your design.

This class is packed full of creative techniques, plus a whole lot of fun.
