Student Level:
Beginner - Intermediate
Type of Workshop: Process - students will take prints home

Although the term printmaking implies multiple prints of the same image, monotype printmaking is the process of manipulating the ink on the plate, resulting in one unique and distinctive print.

In this class you will learn different monotype techniques – from Trace Monotypes to 2 color Monotypes, as well as how to alter the Ghost images. Neither advanced nor beginning drawing skills is necessary. We will be working from images of your choice.

Printmaking Kit Fee of $30 payable to Instructor at class time includes:

  • printmaking papers
  • inks
  • Tarlatan cloth
  • Q-tips and other tools to manipulate the ink
  • rubber gloves

Instructor will supply for us in class:

  • plexiglass plates
  • inks
  • portable press
  • supplies for cleaning tools

Students should bring:

  • various color and black/white images – 8”x10” or larger (images with a main focal subject and without a lot of extra “background” distractions will be easier to work with)
  • brayer
  • assortment of painting brushes
  • apron to protect clothes
