Really nice artist-quality cards can cost upward of $6 apiece. But hey - you're an artist, so why not make your own and learn some new techniques in the process. I was chosen to create the cards for the packaging of Strathmore Artist Paper’s new Mixed Media Card line and have fallen in love with handmade cards again, an on-again, off-again affair that goes back to my pre-school days. We’ve come a long way from crayons and constructions paper, so come along with me and explore the latest in mixed-media card art.

Using this wonderful new mixed media surface, and two other new and unique card surfaces, we will explore a myriad of techniques: surface design, textures, TAP transfers, stitching, cut-aways, layers, add-ons, subtractions and more. Emphasis will be on creativity and craftsmanship. Learn how to translate your unique art and style to envelope sized creations that will be a gift in themselves.

Kit fee of $10 payable to Instructor at class time includes:

  • all card surfaces
  • paints
  • TAP transfers
  • assortment of collage materials

Students should bring:

  • Elmers white glue or your favorite glue
  • Things you usually write & draw with (markers, pens, pencils, etc)
  • 2 - 1” foam brushes
  • water container
  • gloves & apron if used for painting
  • Scissors
  • Ruler
  • Bits for collage (papers, doo-dads, ephemera, fabrics, etc)
