Student Level:
Intermediate - Advanced
Type of Workshop: Project

Rembrandt used copper plates, acid and asphaltum to create his famous etchings, but we will use aluminum and a far less toxic etching medium using stuff from the hardware store, table salt and water. In this workshop you will sketch on the plate, etch and then print on an etching press. You will learn proper inking and wiping techniques and have time to experiment with those techniques. You will make several etching plates and multiple prints. Bring your sketches for reference if you like and I will bring everything else.

Supply fee of $15 payable to Instructor at class time includes:

  • etching plates
  • ink
  • etching solution
  • gloves
  • paper
  • etching tools
