Join me for the day as I share a special technique for adding stamped texture to base metal using silver bearing solder, or as I call it, gilding with solder.

The day will be filled with etching, cutting and texturing metal. Then, firing up the torch, laying down solder and stamping. You will have the opportunity to work on as many pieces as you desire, which includes working directly on a blank brass collar. You might choose to attach one of your “gilded” pieces to an etched brass cuff, while the others can be used to design a necklace focal. You’ll be able to work with metal stamps, texture hammers and punches. And, play with one of my favorite patina options, Gilders Paste.

I believe you will be amazed where the techniques you learn in this class will take you. You will only be limited by your imagination….lets see how far we can take it!

  • Alcohol/Cotton Pads/Cotton Swabs
  • Clear Finish Matte Spray & Renaissance Wax
  • Dust Masks
  • Latex-Free Gloves

I will have the following items to use in class (or please bring any of these tools you might have if you don’t want to wait to share):

  • Metal Design Stamps
  • Texture Hammers
  • Fat Daddy Cutters
  • Rubber Stamps, Red Rubber
  • Guilders Paste, Variety/Soft Cloths
  • Dasco Pro Cold Chisels, 1/4” or 5/16” (local hardware store)
  • Protective Eye Wear/Safety Glasses (Lowe’s or Home Depot)

Students should bring:

  • Nickel Silver, Brass or Copper Sheet Metal, 24 gauge (amount depends of number of projects you work on; I might suggest one each of either 6”x6” or 6”x12”)
  • Wall Lenk LPT-500 OR Butane Micro Torch
  • Lenox Brand Sterling Solid Wire Solder, Lead-Free, Easy-Flowing 1 lb. box w/Purple Label (Grainger or amazon.com)
  • LENOX Brand Water Soluble Lead Free Flux (Lowe’s, Grainger or amazon.com)
  • Flux Brush (Lowe’s or Home Depot)
  • Kiln Brick or Magnesium Soldering Block (beaducation.com)
  • Cookie Sheet, Inexpensive kind w/a Lip
  • Pliers, inexpensive flat, long-nose (Michael’s or Hobby Lobby)
  • Nylon Jaw Bracelet Pliers ( beaducation.com)
  • French or Scissor Shears (I prefer the French)
  • Metal Jewelry File, #2 flat
  • Small or Needle File Set
  • Metal Hole Punch, 1.8mm (Hobby Lobby)
  • Ball Peen Hammer
  • Steel Bench Block & Bench Pad
  • Nylon or Rawhide Mallet
  • Scissors, Small
  • Flexible Tape Measure & Small Ruler
  • Drill Bit, 1/8” (Lowe’s or Home Depot)
  • 5/32” or 1/8” Center Punch ( not automatic, local hardware store)
  • Metal Awl or Scribe (local hardware store)
  • Favorite Rubber Stamps, (Mounted or Not) Red Rubber; and others (for etching) ex: Designs, Theme, Background, Words
  • StazOn Inkpad, Jet Black Only
  • Ultra Fine Point and Chisel Tip Marker, Black

  • Pliers, Round-Nose and Chain-Nose

  • Vintage Rhinestone Earring (Ex.: Ones with small openings for attaching to metal)

  • 20 gauge (for wire wrapping)
  • 16 gauge (for clasp)
