By doing a series of very small quilts in class, you’ll learn to combine cloth and paper and free motion machine sewing with a little colorant to create a meaningful and quite fabulous art quilt. Using your own, or copyright free images, Jane will show you how to stitch like an artist. Your stitched image, fabric, and paper will tell a story, or recall a memory. You’ll assemble what you’ve done at the end of class to create a nearly finished quilt.
Supplies provided by Instructor for use in class:
- colorants (watercolor crayons)
- small brushes
- water containers
- paper towels
- copyright free images
- color pencils
- tulle
- rotary cutter/matts/ruler
- glue stick
- fusible webbing,
- painters tape
Students should bring:
- sewing machine for each person. (Janome has a travel size for under $60)
- fabric (bring a selection of fat quarters light colored solids work best)
- sewing machine thread to contrast with fabric
- scissors
- straight pins
- tracing paper
- neutral bobbin thread
- simple images (your own, or copyright free-- no smaller than 3x3”/no larger than 6x6 inches- you’ll be free motion stitching the outlines of these images)
- 1 yard of low loft batting
Optional:
- vintage napkins
- bits of lace
- cheese cloth
- small piece of interesting paper to include in the quilt
- rotary cutter and mat if you have one
