Learn the basics of felting a sweater and create a small change purse with an individual designed flower, leaves and stem on the front flap. I enjoy designing these small purses in the evenings during the northeast’s cold winter months. Learn where to locate a sweater, what size to purchase, how to properly size the material, cutting the fabric to enable the best design for your work, designing a free handed flower with leaves and bouncing the needle to help design a cohesive pattern. The decorative finishing stitch will bring your work to life and you’ll learn to choose a complimentary thread color and antique button to finish off your original work. Use it to hold your phone, change or whatever rolls around in your purse, you’ll love it!

Materials fee of $5 payable to Instructor at class time includes:

  • A sized sweater for each student
  • Felting wool in many colors
  • Embroidery Thread in various colors
  • Vintage buttons

Students should bring:

  • Fabric scissors
  • Large eye embroidery needle
  • Clover Needle Felting Tool 8900 (Michael’s, JoAnn’s), extra needles
  • Felting Brush: 3” x 5” with 1” deep bristles, may be larger/longer if you choose. This can be purchased at any hardware store. They are called a Clover Large Felting Mat (Michael’s, JoAnn’s), but the brush from a hardware store will suffice.

Optional:

  • Vintage button for your purse. Round or half round sizes work best for these pieces. I will have many for you to choose from.
