Student Level:
All
Type of Workshop: Process and Project

in this mixed media painting class students are guided through my ideas and process through a series of simple open ended instructions. the instructions are basic, the timing is quick for each step, this keeps things moving and fresh. the instructions will engage a variety of techniques using brushes, marking tools, finger painting, closed eyes, continuous line, etc etc.. students will learn to understand that any move can be a good move as long as you're moving and thinking.. you will see that as long as you think in a basic compositional sense things come together in time with little stress.. this is a great introduction to my ideas and techniques for all skill levels. its a great class for people who get stuck, don’t know what to paint, or those who just want to learn new open techniques to expand there own process..

as in all my classes the idea is not what you paint but why and how.. by following through with a random list of instructions and techniques we learn to see how quick we can move when we are free, and how great accidents can be.. its easier to make 7 mistakes than 1 perfect plan. this class is organized where i give an instruction then students are left to choose placement, likes and dislikes specific to there own works. so we all start with the same ideas and make them our own by choosing how to utilize or interpret them. working quickly and freely we learn to see what we have done rather than what we intended to do which is quite often far more interesting then what we had first imagined..

this class is part guide, part lecture, very hands on and full of fun and stimulating ideas for artists of any level..
