Students of ALL skill levels are invited to learn a unique approach to creating containers employing cold connection in the creation of wearable jewelry objects. From conceptual and abstract to figurative and narrative, Thomas Mann has explored the concepts of containers throughout his career. He brings this wealth of information to inspire and instruct his students.

This workshop requires the use of a unique slot and tab kit designed by Tom for this very special approach to container making.

Kit fee of $60 payable to Instructor at class time includes:

  • 1 chemically etched sheet designed by Thomas Mann that has components to make 2 brooch/necklaces
  • 10 each nuts/bolts/washers
  • 2 pin backs & stems
  • 2 circle plexi covers
  • Instructional Booklet

Students should bring:

  • Photographs – old ones, new ones, magazine images
  • Little bits, buttons, heirloom jewelry parts, stuff found in the street, odd materials such as plastics, wood, chain, electronic parts, etc.
  • Start looking for stuff on the streets and sidewalks wherever you go.

Tom will have the tools for use in class but if you want to bring your own, they are listed below:

  • Jewelers saw (preferably a 6” depth frame) and saw blades. (2/0’s especially) - ( if you take LTS, you will have these)
  • Pliers (round, flat, needle and most importantly . . . a full flush cutter).
  • Your other favorite jewelry making hand tools
  • Rivet hammer
  • Medium steel wool
  • Bench block - so you don’t have to use the community tool
  • If you own a flexible shaft machine, bring it so you don't have to share.
