This is a 1 1/2 day workshop.

We will explore  a variety of ways to use & distress metal, cloth, paper,  found objects, and you will learn A  boatload of brand new ideas & techniques!

After many requests, I am happy to offer this day & half version of the Vintage Metal Deck workshop. If you have already taken the one day class, you will be happily surprised by the new size of this deck as well as  new  techniques & information presented in this in depth workshop.

You will receive in depth instruction on how to work with metal  including...

  • how to master object placement, composition & problem solving
  • how to add texture & depth to your work
  • composition & design concepts
  • a variety of new surface design techniques

Students should bring:

Although the supplies for this class are relatively inexpensive & easily accessible, there are a few products that you might not be able to find in your area.  You may have to order these online, so please order your supplies early to allow for shipping time.

  • white gesso, at least 6 oz.- Utrecht Artists' Acrylic Gesso, White, Medium Bodied - This is a  thick & inexpensive gesso that is available here...
  • Crafter's Pick, The Ultimate Glue, small 4 oz. Bottle.  This glue is available at Hobby Lobby, or here:
  • fluid matte medium (not gel medium) - small 4 0z. bottle, any brand
  • Sophisticated Finishes Patina - 4 oz. Blue or green, your choice. Be sure to buy the matching copper surfacer, patina will not work without it.   This is usually available at Michaels, or online here
  • scissors
  • a few medium size paint brushes
  • eyelets & wire , a variety of sizes & colors
  • a  Crop-o-dile if you have one - the small pink one is fine
  • 2 or 3 of your favorite acrylic paints... These cards are small so you don't need huge 8 oz. tubes of paint for this class.  If everyone brings a small amount of 2 or 3 colors & is willing to share, there should be plenty to go around.  I also bring paint to share.
  • images
  • small found objects
  • a heat gun  if you have one

A note about supplies:

I bring plenty of images, ephemera & small found objects for everyone to use. However, I believe that it is important to have some materials to work with that you are familiar with & comfortable using. Therefore, I ask that you bring some images, found objects & ephemera that you love to work with. Also, we usually end up having a community pile for everyone to use, so please bring extras to share. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
