Type of Workshop: Techniques with samples to take home
One of the most common things I hear as an instructor is “I can’t paint faces” and I have witnessed the terror that comes to the student face when this task is required. Yet an expressive well painted face on a doll or sculpture can be the detail that really makes a piece of art. I will gently walk you through the process of painting faces. I have tricks and tips to share with you to make the process of painting a face easier. Soon you will find yourself loving to paint faces. We will be working mostly on three dimensional faces, but will also cover some basics on paper. This is a technique class; you will come out of class with a great start to a piece of art but not a complete project.
Teacher will provide:
- Paper for practicing
- comprehensive handout
Students should bring:
- 2 porcelain doll heads two different sizes (can still be attached to doll body)
- Good quality brushes: a medium, small, and a TINY detail brush
- Sm container of gesso
- Acrylic paints (quality does not matter) black, white, cream, dark brown, med brown, pink, blue, green, and red
- Heat gun and extension cord
- Water container and palette
- A handful of Qtips
- A soft rag
- A pencil
