In this class you will learn how to layer papers and how to fuse the layers thermally to achieve leather like paper fabric. You will learn how to layer paint and paper to achieve color, texture, and depth to your paper leather. You will make and use a heat sensitive stamp. You will learn how to achieve transparent and opaque images. You will be guided step by step along with several demonstrations on the process. Most will take home a large finished sheet of paper leather fabric and lots of technical information.
Although we will not be making a journal or a purse in this workshop, I will have samples available for inspiration and to answer questions on how they were made.
Kit Fee of $8 payable to Instructor at class time includes:
- backing material (approx. 12x20)
- heat tools to be shared
- foils
- work papers in various sizes
- materials to make a stamp
- parchment papers
Supplies Provided by Teacher:
- varied paper
- a few brushes
- scraping tools
- colored pencils
- markers
- heat tools to be shared
- art rubber stamps to be shared
- acrylics to share
- foam plate palettes
Students should bring:
a variety of your favorite ephemera - a small foam brush
- a heat embossing tool (so you do not have to wait and share)
- 3 to 4 craft type acrylics in colors of your choice plus white and black
- A kitchen type sponge
- scissors ( I will bring some to share),
- clear acrylic painting medium, no modge podge please; I use Liquitex or Americana .
