Sometimes more is better. I learned this technique years ago and tweaked it, yanked it and stretched it into the form it has today. Using a filtered photo we have transfered to a canvas we paint at least 5 layers of different colored acrylics on different parts of the face and background. After all the parts are dry, the final coat is black india ink rolled over the entire thing. Yes, it looks like a blank, black square before the 'wash'. We will take our piece outside for a hosing-off. Yes, we wash off the layers off until we get to our desired effect. We can never predict exactly the outcome of our project but I find that delightfully freeing. The black seeps in the cracked paint leaving us with a somewhat antiquated look. I love the unique results and you will too. This can be done as fine art or a children's project. Please send a photo you wish to use and I can filter it for you or you can bring a gray-scale photocopy.
