If you adore saving details and memories from everyday life, vacations, a special event, or even want to create a memory book from an event such as Art Unraveled, this is the answer of what to do with all that stuff! This finished painted and stenciled canvas book will have secret pockets and "right there in front of your eyes" pockets to hold all your "stuff," whether it be photos, luggage tags, hotel room ephemera, tickets, maps, etc. You get the idea, right? There is a very minimal amount of stitching to put the book together, which can be done by hand or sewing machine; it's your choice, and Jane is even willing to bind it for you on the spot, if you wish. No sewing skills necessary!
Kit Fee of $15 payable to Instructor at class time includes:
- canvas for the pages
- a variety of paints
- embellishments
- a variety of pockets, including the mini plastic pockets as shown in the photo
- stick on fabric letters
Teacher will provide:
- a detailed handout of construction procedures
- pattern for pages and cover of book
- stencils and mark makers
- old but sanitized toothbrushes
- pipettes
- safety pins
- miscellaneous doodads and whatnots for class use in books
- 5 sewing machines for students who wish to machine stitch their books together*
- sewing machine thread
- iron
- ironing board
- extension cords
Students should bring:
- Apron or old clothes that don't mind paint
- water container - old butter/margarine/spread size tub is perfect
- 2 or 3 cheapy brushes: sponge, bristle, whatever you prefer, 1 or 1.5 inch size approximately works great
- Scissors
- About 8-12 pieces of miscellaneous scrap paper in random sizes (hotel note pad paper, scrapbook paper, cardstock, papers used in classes, maps, large receipts, confirmations, etc. Anything goes!)
- Items to attach to pages (whatever you wish, such as tickets, photos, hotel and restaurant ephemera or keys, receipts, trades from AU, maps, scraps from AU classes, printed email, notes, lists, class descriptions, etc. whatever makes YOUR heart happy)
Optional:
Sharp embroidery needle with an eye large enough for embroidery floss and a skein of embroidery floss in your desired color, only if you wish to hand sew the book together.
*Any student who prefers machine stitching and would like to bring in a machine is welcome to do so, however, it is not necessary to be successful in class, since the entire book can be done by hand or with the teacher's help on the machines provided.
