Coffee Tea and Onion Skins! Sunday 6:30 - 9:30 $70 Lorri Scott
Student Level: All
Type of Workshop: Process
Lengths of white silk ribbon beckon to be colored in subtle shades of nature. We will bundle ribbons with coffee, tea, and onion skins to create interesting patterns. Iron, vinegar, and rust will be used as mordants to alter the color of our organic dyes. Ribbons are used in so many ways in mixed media art from jewelry to book ties to flower pins and clothing adornment. When you leave class you will have a nice bundle of earth toned ribbons to take with you and use in your special art project.
I will also show you how you can take water colored with coffee, tea, or onion skins and thicken it to make an ink paste you can paint with or use in stenciling or stamping. I will have some already made for you to experiment with while we wait for our bundles to cool after steaming.
The natural dye products we are using are easily accessible, dye fairly quickly and patterns are created with ease. The color is transferred onto the silk like magic!
