Do you find yourself forever on the hunt for things that inspire you to create? Looking for new ways to expand your artwork? Are you a collector of items that you’re not quite sure how to incorporate into your work? In this workshop you will lean how to use wood and acrylic to create frames that will become an extension of your art. We will lean how to alter acrylic, wood and various fabric surfaces with papers and paints. I will also guide you on how you can Incorporate machine and hand sewing into your artwork. We will explore how you can incorporate found objects into your collaged surfaces using various techniques such as using nails and drilling holes into your substrate surface to attach these elements.
Materials Fee of $5 payable to Instructor at class time for 1 piece of 12 x12 Multi Purpose Cloth (more will be available to buy in class)
Supplies provided by the instructor: drill and drills bits (bring your own if you do not want to wait to use) sewing machine.
Supply List:
- Wood: this will be your base so bring the size you want to work or a few different sizes. If you are into details then a 6x6 would be great also keep in mind that the wood needs to be at least one or two inches thick to accommodate nails and tacks)
- Acrylic sheet (this will be your base so what ever size you want to work with, this can be found in most hard where shops)
- Acrylic Paint (at least 3 colors)
- White or black gesso
- Gel medium (any kind I use matte)
- Graphite pencil (black)
- Pallet knife
- Brushes (I use the cheep bristle or foam ones)
- Nails and tacks (old rusty ones or various sizes of new ones both small and large found in hardware stores)
- Hammer
- Fabric (scraps)
- Lace
- Perle Cotton or embroidery floss (a few colors)
- Perle cotton needle
- Fine gauge wire (24 gage)
- Picture hanger (of your choice for the wood)
- Various collage papers and book text
- Beads, buttons or things with holes.
- Any item you may want to use in your art.
- Scissors
- Wire cutters
- Paper towels
- Cup to hold water
- Helpful but not necessary: a sewing machine. (There will be one in the class to use.)
- Electric drill or hand drill.
