This is an action packed class where you learn to create layers in your work using transfers. Many of the fun transfers from Image Transfer Workshop will be covered. Learn which surfaces work best for transfers, especially textured and colored layers. By combining some basic texture and resist methods onto a transferable surface you will get a surface that is both sophisticated and unique. We will then incorporate transfer techniques into the layers and learn how to seamlessly blend the edges of your transfers. The transfer methods will allow you to create transparent and layered compositions without using digital photo programs. You will have the ability to work with composition, texture and colors in an innovative and fresh way. You will also learn how to alter your final finishes, ranging from shiny to waxy. This is a great transfer class with no computer necessary to achieve the layered look. This is a process class but you will have time to finish at least one masterpiece.

Materials fee of $20 payable to Instructor at class time includes: soft gel gloss, polymer medium, printed gampi tissue, water slide decals, transparencies, Extravorganza, gesso, sand paper, foam brushes, burnishing stick, glue, collage papers and spray varnishes.

Supplies provided by Instructor: trays for water, plates for palettes, alcohol spray, laser and inkjet images, textured papers, stamps, sponges and rollers.

Supply list:

  • 8 to 10 small approximately 9x12” gessoed surfaces to work on (panels such as Ampersand are great but you can also gesso watercolor paper)
  • an inexpensive watercolor tablet smooth (Strathmore or Canson 9x12 is good)
  • assorted small containers of acrylic paints (I recommend an artist grade paint such as Golden or Liquitex in soft body or fluid)
  • small container of polymer medium gloss
  • spray bottle for water
  • scissors
  • paper towels
  • stepped handle palette knife
  • synthetic (not bristle) cheap brushes 1” flat
  • water container for brushes
  • if you have specific imagery you want to use bring it as a laser copy or inkjet.
