This is a mixed media class in its truest sense, in which you will use several mediums to create a very unique doll. You will work with wood, paints, dyes, mica powders, polymer clay, wax, wire, shellac, and more to create your doll.
The first part of class will be spent learning to make a 3-D head from a simple armature using polymer clay and your choice from a selection of face molds provided by the instructor for class use. You will be able to use this technique for future doll-making by simply modifying to the size you need. You will also be able to play with beeswax and shellac for some exciting results~!
Optional wire arms can be made and simple hands will be taught.
The second part of class will be spent coloring the wooden body and assembling the doll on the stand. Wire can be used as embellishment or you are welcome to bring objects to glue to the body.
Your doll will have either a wooden stand, or its own wooden cart to which you will add wheels and paint as you wish.
Are they odd? Modern, or vintage? Wadaheckerdiez?! You decide.
Kit fee of $20.00 payable toInstructor at class time (cash please) and includes: Detailed handout, Wood for doll body, Wire, Metal washers, Dowel, Wooden stand (must notify instructor with choice of stand at sign up!), use of dyes, paints, beeswax, molds, shellac, Pearl Ex, Dremel, and all other materials not listed for students to bring.

Supply List:
- 4 packages of Premo Ecru Polymer clay (Condition clay before class, and roll each package into a ball. The clay will need to be on the soft side - so try to squeeze-test it in the package before you buy it! Avoid the really firm packages! You may not use all the clay but better to have extra than not enough.)
- wire cutters
- chain nose and round nose jewelry pliers
- hammer (if doing the wheeled-cart)
- inexpensive natural-bristled paint brush for wax
- clay-slicing blade or small craft knife
- aluminum knitting needle (a # 5 US (3.75 mm) OR a metal awl )
- small item you would like to attach to the top of your doll’s head with wire (optional)
