The Sew Somerset Sew Scrappy Journal Wednesday 9:00 - 4:30 $130 Jane Eileen
Student Level: All
Type of Workshop: Project
This is the journal that was on the cover of the summer 2009 Sew Somerset . If you ever wanted to make a journal with a twist or wanted to just make one with all your leftovers and not have to go out and buy anything, this is the answer. We will spend the beginning of class painting, splattering, and dripping on fabric which will later become the pages of our books. Next, we will experiment with mixing all kinds of materials including leftover fabrics, papers, transparencies, metals, unconventional goodies, etc. Then, we’ll be playing with a variety of textures , designs, and unusual color combinations, making something out of nothing, so to speak, something beautiful to a mixed media artist’s eye. The remainder of the class will be spent putting those things onto our pages and constructing the book. We will keep it funky and fun with spaces for you to go back and journal in your book. If you can sew an almost straight line on your machine, you have all the prerequisite sewing skills you need to be successful!
Kit fee of $10 payable to Instructor at class time includes: access to a variety of liquid and iron on adhesives, a plethora of embellishment fabrics and net, miscellaneous sew on pieces, lace, trims, buttons, and decorative items, embroidery floss, threads in many colors, photos, pictures, transparencies, ephemera, pattern tissue, found objects and metal doodads, a variety of different types and colors of paints for fabrics, recycled and scrapbook papers, etc.
Supplies Provided by Instructor: handout and take home pattern, a personalized sew on label for each person, a wide variety of mark making materials, and all other necessary supplies to complete the project
