Student Level: Beginner
Type of Workshop: Project

We will use the soy wax to create batik like effects on cloth. Paint makes this medium fun and approachable. Wax is a resist, so we will explore and exploit its ability to trap previously applied colors, while building new and exciting layers of color. Soy wax is an ecologically safe, food grade wax, unlike paraffin it can be completely, and safely, washed out of the cloth in your home washing machine, no harsh chemicals or dry cleaning needed! This is a highly addictive way to create pattern on cloth.
Supply List
Materials fee of $12 payable to Instructor at class time includes: soy wax and use of 2 melting pots and tools, student names will be put into a hat at end of class and drawn, pots will go to two class participants.- Opaque acrylic paints are preferred, some paints are specifically formulated to give a soft hand on cloth, either type works well. My preferred brand is Lumiere And Neopaque but I encourage you to work within your own budget and needs.
