There is something special about the circle – from crop circles to pop art, from sacred symbols to op art, the circle draws me in and makes me feel safe. In this class we will paint a series of works using only circles and using a very limited palette. Using Claybord as our substrate - learn the ins and outs of working with this unique and forgiving surface. Carving texture into the surface, applying a variety of texture mediums onto the surface, we will vary the shape and size of our circles making some precise and some raw. We will paint using alcohol ink, acrylic paint and paint markers applied with brushes, sticks and palette knives.
I will furnish several pre-defined palettes of acrylic paint (to choose from) so each person will be able to learn the advantages of working in a limited analogous palette. Even if you feel a little uncertain about your ability to draw or paint a circle, I have templates and stencils, so no worries! At the end of the class you will have 2 matching claybords to use as 2D art pieces or to make into book covers (I’ll include instructions on how you could easily do this).
Kit fee of $15 payable to Instructor at class time includes: claybord and texture mediums for each student, plus use of all paints and markers for use during class.
Supplies provided by Instructor include Paints, markers, carving tools, dremel engraving tool, stencils and templates.
Supply List:Pencil Scissors Bristle brushes (bring one or two smallish brushes) Black Glaze pen Paint markers - bring a few of your favorite analogous colors (Deco Color Acrylic (order from Dick Blick) have no odor and are recommended) Optional: if you already own any carving tools such as dental instruments or a dremel engraving tool, bring them
