Funky stuffed cover, watercolor pages and digital collage inside, will give you an idea of what will be covered in this jam packed one day workshop. You will learn how to digitally print on fabric and specialty surfaces so that in the future you will be able to add these types of printed surfaces to your art projects.
Students will bring to the workshop 5 digital images, format described in supply list. During the workshop we will print student images from a 4” x 6” inkjet printer. The prints will be used to collage the pages of your journal.
At the same time students are taking their turn at printing, a stuffed hand made cover will be constructed for the outside of the journal. We will do the basic construction of piecing the squares, stuffing the squares with fiberfill and then assembling all the squares to make the basic cover. This will be done with embroidery thread and large stitches. You can then embellish the cover either in class or later depending on time.
Before the workshop students will color the watercolor paper to be used as the pages in the journal. The beauty of this journal is that you can put it all together with the basics and finish it as you go. We will put the pages together and sew them in signatures to the cover. Complete instructions will be provided in case you need to finish some items later.
Materials fee of $10 payable to Instructor at class time includes - 4” x 6” pre-coated fabric and specialty surfaces for printing, fiberfill for cover
Supplies Provided by Instructor: Pieces of digital prints, other elements that can be collaged by the students to the pages, some fabrics, assorted scraps
Supply List:- 2 sheets of Fabriano Artistico 140 LB Hot Press Watercolor paper. These sheets are 22” x 30”. This type of paper is used because it does not break when folded like Arches or similar papers. The pages for this journal are 22” x 5” and then folded to make the 11” x 5” pages of the signature. This means you will cut the page of paper into 6 pieces 22” x 5” and color the pages in some way to get your journal made in the workshop. We won’t have time to color the pages and put everything together. If you email me when you sign up I will send you a jpg file with picture instructions.
