Chica-fied Fabric Collage Art Apron Tuesday 9:00 - 4:30 $130
  Kathy Cano-Murillo

Student Level:
Intermediate - Advanced Sewers
Type of Workshop: Project

In order to make art, you need to wear art! In this class, students will make a functional “chica-fied” art apron using a variety of Mexican-themed fabrics, trims, paints, appliqués, crystals, rhinestones, pockets, embroidery straps and a waistband. There are even secret compartments for extra sly artistas who want to whip out their favorite supply of choice!

Chica style rages with bold colors, lots of contrast, Latino pop culture imagery, and a freestyle method of sewing. Included are very basic patterns, but overall this class will teach you how to use your creative instincts when it comes to balance, composition and colors to end up with an apron that is 100% YOU! Kathy will share her secret method of making stitch and sealed glittered fabric.

Materials fee of $10 payable to Instructor at class time includes: Pattern, instruction, fabric, appliqués, paints, stamps, thread, crystals, embroidery floss, glitter, canvas fabric, scissors, measuring tape.

    Supply List:
  • Sewing machine (I will have one on hand, but you will get more out of the class and process if you bring your own).
  • Any extra embellishments you want to add if you want to make an apron in your favorite theme.
