Type of Workshop: Process and Project

It’s fun to play with paper dolls! (It’s even more fun to see grown men play with paper dolls, which happened in our household recently.) In this class you’ll spend a relaxed evening creating a unique, interactive artist book using only cereal boxes as your substrate. Your set of paper dolls will fit into the pockets of the folded book structure, which becomes the backdrop for your characters when folded out. Fun!

We’ll start the evening with gesso and brayer, watercolors and charcoal and create the rich and colorful textured backdrop you see here. Next you will create your characters based on a fairy tale, a fable, your family, or your imagination. (Can’t draw? No problem! We’ll take a few minutes and do some fun and easy drawing exercises to build your confidence and get your ideas flowing.)

You’ll go home with a finished project; but better, you can take this “gesso-watercolor-rub-and-swirl technique” home and apply it to all kinds of substrates including wood, clayboard, junk mail, and your journal pages. This is a great class to indulge your inner child on many levels… join me!
