    Have you avoided using bezels in your work because they are just too much work? Or maybe you are intimidated by the soldering techniques and tools need to successfully create bezels. Then this class is for you. You will learn several techniques for creating and using bezels that securely hold cabochons, stones or other found objects using what I call 'trapping'. These bezels require no soldering and no special tools beyond the basic jewelry making tools you probably already have on your bench.

    The goal of the class will be to make one or more mixed metal pendants and a set of earrings similar to the sample photos. The skills you learn will be easily transferred to your own future projects.

    Supply and Tool List:
  • 14 or 16 gauge copper wire
  • 24 or 26 gauge copper sheet approx 4 inches by 6 inches
  • 24 or 26 gauge brass (red or yellow) sheet approx 4 inches by 6 inches
  • 1 Round Cabochon 8mm – 10mm for the pendant
  • 2 Round Cabochons 6mm-8mm for the earrings
  • Found objects that might lend themselves to the trap technique
  • Flat and round nose pliers,
  • Metal shears or tin snips
  • Wire cutters (inexpensive hardware store variety, not your best flush cutters)
  • Files, fine sandpaper, sanding block or Scotch-brite type pad for cleaning and polishing
  • Bench Pin
  • Bench Block
  • Jeweler’s saw and blades (sizes #00 and #1)
  • Center Punch
  • Small vise…the 3 inch type that clamps onto a table will do fine.
  • Hammers – small hammer for riveting (2 oz) – medium size hammer (4oz – 8 oz) for foldforming copper

Optional:
Dremel Tool or similar rotary tool for drilling and #56 drill bit or 1/16 inch drill bit
