Art has always played a role in the life of Phoenix resident, Angie Platten. Art isn’t just something she ‘does’, it’s how she views life and it defines her as a person. Her 15-year career as a hairdresser allowed her to express herself artistically, in a unique way. She retired upon the birth of her first child in 1999 and began seeking out an artistic expression in new ways but has ventured back into the profession again. She is primarily self taught, as an artist, although she has taken many classes over the past several years. Angie’s first experience teaching was at age 13 when she began teaching art and crafts to children through church programs. She continued teaching and has organized many children’s programs at church as well as working with inner city kids. In 2007, she began teaching a women’s weekly class focusing on meditation, journaling, and art as an expression. She teaches private art lesson in her home studio and will be teaching art to home school students for the 2009-2010 school year. Angie thoroughly enjoys the creative process and especially loves participating in it with others. Angie has had her work published in Quilting Arts Magazine , Pasticcio Zine, and “1000 Handmade Greeting Cards”.
