I received a BA in studio art from University of NC at Wilmington and then went back years later to receive my MFA in Metal Design at East Carolina University in 2006. I love many different mediums and have dabbled in everything from ceramics, iron pouring, sculpture, assemblage, collage, painting, watercolor, weaving and felt making, papermaking, book arts, encaustics, you name it! But my true love is metal working. I also get a huge thrill out of passing the joy of making on to others. It is such a thrill to me that it has taken on almost evangelical fervor! It has become a crusade to share the joy of smithing. For me art retreats are so fabulously fun because they’re fast and furious and people are so revved up. My longer classes are rewarding because we can dive in a little deeper and take more time. I truly believe our greatest gifts as human beings are to create and to share it with others. Teaching encompasses both those things rolled into a lovely little delicious éclair. So what greater joy could there be than to help others create and share what I love? When I teach I get goosebumps.
